Hill opens this chapter by stating that general knowledge is of little use in accumulating wealth. He adds that most professors have little or no money because they specialize on teaching knowledge, but they do not specialize on the organization or use of the knowledge. This is interesting because I have always looked at professors as having not only knowledge but lots of money too. Knowledge will not attract money unless it is organized and intelligently directed through practical plans of action to definite end of accumulation of money. Because so many people don’t understand this fact, they end up with the false belief that “knowledge is power”. In this chapter we are made to understand that “knowledge is only potential power” and it only becomes power only when and if it is organized into definite plans of action and directed to a definite end. The person who stops studying merely because he has finished school is forever hopelessly doomed to mediocrity, no matter what may be his calling. The way of success is the way of continuous pursuit of knowledge.
After reading this chapter, I realized I have been paying so much attention to the degrees earned with the belief that General knowledge will get me a better job, better pay, better statuesque in life and all that good stuff. The reality is after the first degree in whatever field, we are all tempted to go in for a Masters degree because the pay is better. We get the Master's degree and realize that a PHD is better or going to a professional school. What is the end result? Absolutely the same, you end up with a boss who hardly ever appreciates what you are worth, you end up with a job below what you are worth but you still take it to make ends meet and you end up with thousands of dollars on student loans to pay for the rest of your life.
Why do I say this? This is because so many people do not see the importance of specialized knowledge. Hill rightly puts it when he says Knowledge has no value except that which can be gained from its application toward some worthy end. This is one reason why college degrees are not valued more highly. They represent nothing but miscellaneous knowledge.
Hill goes on to say that there is a vast difference between the kind of education taught in schools and actually being an educated person. In school, we are taught General knowledge and in order to be an educated person you must specialize and you must become single minded in pursuit of your specialty. Hill devotes a large part of the chapter to stories illustrating the theme that it is important to specialize if you want to succeed. The story of the accountant who got fired because his employers could no longer a full time accountant struck me to the core. This is because it was as a result of being fired from my job as an executive assistant that made me to discover I have something more to offer to the community, and I went to Law School. I have never looked back and I am grateful because it has let me to a place where I see things differently.
When I joined the MLM Company a few years ago, I was very excited but limited in knowledge but because I was seeking for more, I found the Mentoring For Free Group and read the book Success in 10 steps. I couldn't belief the services offered were truly for free even after having a coaching call with Michael Dlouhy. Today I am proud to belong to this wonderful Mastermind group because through the assistance of the awesome coaches in this group, I have been able to get the specialized knowledge needed to enable me to grow my business to the success level that it is right now.
Any man is educated who knows where to get knowledge when he needs it, and how to organize that knowledge into definite plans of action. Andrew Carnegie stated that he, personally, knew nothing about the technical end of the steel business; moreover, he did not particularly care to know anything about it. The specialized knowledge which he required for the manufacture and marketing of steel, was made available through the Individual units of his MASTER MIND GROUP.
I have always believed that "knowledge is power" until I read this chapter and realized that Knowledge on its own is NOT power. Applying the knowledge and having a mastermind group and an organized plan on how to execute and use that knowledge is what will bring Power. I am learning every day from my Mentoring For Free group and I am concentrating on eBook downloads in order to empower others with my knowledge. I am using the knowledge I get from the leaders in this group to apply to the community and it is in fact bringing me results which is ultimate power. I refuse to compromise with life by accepting and keeping a job I do not want or like. That is why I am a professional network marketer and that is why I have joined the mastermind group with likeminded individuals like the family at Mentoring for free.
Thank you Michael and all the wonderful leaders at Mentoring for Free for helping me see and apply specialized knowledge in my own life. I am proud to belong to this family and will definitely be here a year from now much better and improved.
Cheers to your success!
